How to Have a Calmer Christmas

Christmas is supposed to be filled with joy and happiness. Yet it is a time also filled with emotion for all sorts of reasons. Not everyone feels like they can enjoy the festive season because of juggling too many things on their to-do list, difficult circumstances, whether that is family dynamics, grief, challenging finances, and so on. It can feel overwhelming to do things differently.

Instead, what if you actually thought about what you would like, or asked your nearest and dearest how they would like the festive season to be? It could surprise you in unexpected ways. To help you prepare for this, take a look at this short guide for guidance on how to have calmer conversations.

Here are 10 coaching questions you can use for yourself or ask others to get them to think about how they would like the holidays to be and how to have a calmer Christmas:

  1. What are you looking to achieve over the holiday season?

  2. How do you want your festivities to feel?

  3. What can you do to make that happen?

  4. What expectations do you need to set?

  5. What do you need to let go of?

  6. What support do you need?

  7. What boundaries do you need to set?

  8. What actions do you need to take to achieve this?

  9. How would your energy change if you do this?

  10. What can you learn from this for the new year?

By having these conversations, helps you discover what everyone is looking for, set expectations, and hopefully, keeps people happy by each having something to look forward to.
