Money anxiety: a 3-step guide to feel calmer about money
If you have money anxiety, you’re not alone. Trying to stop worrying about money can feel overwhelming. Here is a 3-step guide to feel calmer about money.
First, think about what exactly is making you feel anxious. Is it something actually happening right now, or something you are anticipating that could happen but is outside of your control. For example, is it something specific such as an unexpected expense and how you may pay for it, mounting debts, or a major life event? Or is it a general feeling of anxiety around money, a feeling of a lack of control or a lack of confidence around managing money?
Second, what are your options? Often we think that we have few choices. Actually, we do. Think or brainstorm the ideal steps and the alternatives. Think about each option, the pros and cons, and what each option could mean for you in practice.

Third, which is the best solution for you? Consider what action you can take, or what free, independent advice you can seek. If you are hesitant about doing something, think of the reasons that might be. What small steps can you take to work towards resolving this issue and the source of your anxiety?
Remember, it’s normal to worry about the future, uncertainty, and the what-ifs. The theory is that you only need to worry about what you can control and forget the rest. However, if it’s something that is certain to happen in the future, how can you feel best prepared for it so that you feel better and more secure? Think of how calm you could feel once you have taken these steps to reduce your money anxiety.
